TORONTO — On Thursday, Premier Doug Ford issued the following statement to mark the start of Black History Month 2024:

“Black History Month is a chance to recognize and celebrate the remarkable contributions Ontario’s Black community has made to our province from the very beginning. Ontario is proud of the legacy and impact that Black residents have on every part of our society.

Black History Month is also a time to renew our commitment to standing against discrimination and racism in order to ensure that Ontario’s Black community can succeed and thrive. That’s why our government is continuing to invest in programs that eliminate barriers, support Black entrepreneurs and address disparities facing Black youth.

I encourage everyone in Ontario to take some time this month to reflect on the history of Black people in our province, as well as to celebrate their many contributions to our social fabric and prosperous future.”
