RECAP of Wednesday February 16, 2022 at the Olympics for Canada

Hamelin, along with teammates Steven Dubois, Jordan Pierre-Gilles, and Pascal Dion crossed the finish line in six minutes 41.257 seconds in the Men's Relay Team Short Track Speed Skating Event.

Wednesday was a day filled with some highs and some lows for our Canadian athletes in Beijing. When all was said and done we added one GOLD medal to our tally and so Canada now has 18 medals. We remain in 5th place overall.

Here is a RECAP of Wednesday at the Olympics for Canada!

***Men’s short track speed skating legend Canadian Charles Hamelin struck GOLD in his fifth and last Olympic games.  Hamelin, along with teammates Steven Dubois, Jordan Pierre-Gilles, and Pascal Dion crossed the finish line in six minutes 41.257 seconds in the Men’s Relay Team Short Track Speed Skating Event. With this medal, Hamelin tied fellow Canadian speed skater Cindy Klassesn as the most decorated Canadian Olympic speed skater of all time! The 37 year old plans to retire on this high note.

Tonight at 11pm (which will be THURSDAY AFTERNOON in Beijing) our Women’s Hockey Team Plays for Gold. Let’s hope they can bring it home!

*** Sweden eliminates Canada in the Men’s Hockey quarterfinals with a score 2-0. The men’s hopes of a winning another GOLD medal in Ice Hockey were quickly snuffed out.

***In Women’s Curling, Jennifer Jones and her Canadian foursome continued their Olympic playoff push with a third straight win in Beijing this time over the USA.  The top four seeded teams (out of TEN) will advance to the playoffs. The women play China next.
