MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads are thrilled to host their inaugural Indigenous Celebration Game during March Break when they face-off against the Barrie Colts on March 15, 2023 at 7:00 PM. It will be an exciting game that will see the Steelheads take on a divisional rival and one of the top teams in the league.

Fans can look forward to seeing the Steelheads unveiling their specialty Indigenous jerseys that were designed by local Indigenous artist Kory Parkin. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off online, with the proceeds going to the 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations. The specialty Indigenous jerseys can be purchased through DASH by clicking here.

“Mississauga will always have a special spot in my heart since it was my birth place.” says Parkin, the jersey’s designer. “Knowing what the city means to so many and its strong Indigenous history, I wanted to showcase its roots while staying true to the original design. The city’s name translates to “the river of the north of many mouths”. Known for its fishing I wanted to showcase the Steelhead front and centre to honour it for all it’s given our people, while also including the symbol of a river for the white lines on the jersey. Being proud of who you are means respecting where you came from, 2012 honours the year the Steelheads was born. Also included the 6 eagle feathers because of its importance to some of the First Nations groups who occupy the land.

“Though I grew up most my life on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, I know how proud the people of Mississauga are of their city and their team, so I knew the importance of keeping the name and the light house atop turtle island in the design to proudly display, this is who we are.”

With March break in full force, Steelheads fans can purchase the Family Four Pack, which includes four tickets, four drinks, and four bags of popcorn for just $85 including tax.
