Today marks 1,000 days since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Toronto, and the unprecedented response from Toronto residents, Toronto Public Health (TPH) and Team Toronto partners throughout the pandemic. While much has changed since Toronto’s first case was identified, COVID-19 still circulates in the community, and TPH and Team Toronto continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the start of the pandemic, TPH has:
• Worked with Team Toronto partners – hospitals, pharmacies, Ontario Health Teams, community healthcare providers and City of Toronto staff, including firefighters and paramedics – to administer more than 7.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, and counting.
• Partnered across Toronto and mobilized 720 people to create Vaccine Engagement Teams (VETs). The VETs have promoted vaccination in communities across Toronto and have spent more than 119,000 hours building vaccine confidence by engaging with Torontonians more than 3.4 million times in more than 40 different languages.
• Reported and responded to approximately 354,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
• Helped manage more than 4,500 declared outbreaks in Toronto.
• Served more than 2,000 clients at the Toronto Voluntary Isolation Centre.
• Delivered more than 1,200 information sessions that reached approximately 50,000 residents.
• Partnered with and supported local child care centres, schools and school boards as they responded to the pandemic.
• Received and provided public health information to more than 500,000 residents through calls and e-mails.

As people head indoors for the fall and winter, COVID-19 has an increased opportunity to spread. Newly approved bivalent COVID-19 vaccines are part of the necessary protection for all Toronto residents against Omicron and its subvariants, especially for those who are at higher risk of severe outcomes.

The Moderna Spikevax® Bivalent (50mcg) COVID-19 vaccine is available to adults and the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty BA.4/5 Bivalent (30 mcg) mRNA COVID-19 vaccine is available for individuals age 12 years and older. Appointments to receive a bivalent booster can be booked now through the Provincial booking system: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/.

More information is available on the City’s COVID-19: About the Vaccines webpage: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-about-the-vaccines/?accordion=mrna-vaccines.

Residents will be able to get vaccinated by Team Toronto partners, including City-run immunization clinics, primary care offices and more than 525 pharmacies. A full list of clinic locations and hours is available on the City’s COVID-19: Where to Get Vaccinated webpage: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-how-to-get-vaccinated/.
