In a significant diplomatic exchange, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron engaged in discussions covering a range of pressing global issues and bilateral cooperation.

The leaders began by addressing the situation in Haiti, where they welcomed a political agreement among Haitian stakeholders. Trudeau and Macron emphasized the crucial need to restore democratic order in the Caribbean nation and expressed support for the United Nations-authorized Multinational Security Support mission aimed at restoring stability. Both leaders reiterated their unwavering commitment to the people of Haiti.

Turning their attention to Ukraine, Trudeau and Macron reaffirmed their countries’ steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They underscored the importance of continuing to bolster assistance to Ukraine in the face of ongoing challenges.

They reaffirmed their commitment to the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), recognizing its significant benefits for businesses and workers in both nations. Additionally, discussions centered on finding common solutions to fishing interests and ensuring long-term sustainability.

Looking ahead, both leaders agreed to maintain regular communication and cooperation to advance shared priorities.
