CANADA DEFEATS USA TO WIN FOURTH CONSECUTIVE FIBA 3X3 WOMEN’S SERIES TITLE

EDMONTON, AB (Sept 22, 2019) – Canada defeated the United States of America to win their fourth consecutive FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series title at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Edmonton final stop.

Entering the tournament as the No. 1 seed, Katherine Plouffe, Michelle Plouffe, Paige Crozon and Catherine Traer defeated Italy 15-14 in the semifinal and advanced to the final game where they defeated 19-17. Canada has now won 19 consecutive games and has not lost since the Prague Stop opener against Russia.

Canada (610 points) is currently ranked second in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Tour Standings. France (770 points) has captured six titles to lead all teams in the standings.

The FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series is the first-ever FIBA 3×3 competition dedicated to women. Each national federation can register one team at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series. Teams then qualify for individual events based on the number of events they have already been allocated to and their team ranking. The Women’s Series Edmonton is the 15th event of the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series 2019.

Canada finished fourth overall in their FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series debut in Turin. Following their debut, Canada has finished second in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Poiters, and third in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Lignano. Most recently, Canada finished first in the last three FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series stop, Prauge, Bucharest and Montreal.

Canada is currently ranked 23rd (3rd Americas) in the FIBA 3×3 Federation Rankings.
