Today, Mayor John Tory led City Council in recognizing and congratulating four Beijing 2022 Olympic medallists from Toronto, as well as acknowledging the accomplishments of all 18 athletes from Toronto who represented their country and their city at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The four medallists from Toronto recognized at City Council today were:
• James (Jack) Crawford – Bronze Medallist, Alpine Skiing (Men’s Alpine Combined)
• Natalie Spooner – Gold Medallist, Women’s Ice Hockey
• Laura Stacey – Gold Medallist, Women’s Ice Hockey
• Claire Thompson – Gold Medallist, Women’s Ice Hockey
Natalie Spooner, Laura Stacey and Claire Thompson attended the presentation and shared remarks on behalf of the athletes.
A total of 215 athletes represented Canada at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China from February 4 to 20, and 48 athletes competed at the Paralympic Games from March 4 to 13. Canadian athletes earned 26 Olympic medals, matching the second-highest tally in Canadian Winter Olympic history, and 25 medals at the Paralympic Games, ranking third overall in the 2022 medal count.
