Mississauga Steelheads' Young Netminder Makes History with Stellar Performance

In a remarkable display of talent and skill, Jack Ivankovic, goaltender for the Mississauga Steelheads, has clinched the prestigious F.W. “Dinty” Moore Trophy for his outstanding rookie goaltending performance in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The 16-year-old native of Mississauga, Ontario, has etched his name in the league’s history books with his exceptional achievements throughout the season.

Ivankovic’s stellar performance between the pipes saw him lead all qualified rookie netminders with an impressive 2.72 goals-against average, solidifying his status as one of the league’s top young goaltending prospects. Over the course of 25 games, Ivankovic boasted an impressive record of 14 wins, 5 losses, 4 overtime losses, and no ties, showcasing his ability to backstop his team to victory on numerous occasions.

One of the standout moments of Ivankovic’s rookie campaign came on November 25th, when he recorded his first career shutout in a commanding 5-0 road win over the Erie Otters. Facing a barrage of shots, Ivankovic demonstrated poise and composure as he turned aside all 48 shots he faced, earning praise from teammates, coaches, and fans alike.

Selected by the Mississauga Steelheads with the seventh overall pick in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, Ivankovic has quickly made his mark on the league, becoming the first goaltender from the Steelheads franchise to ever win the F.W. “Dinty” Moore Trophy. Furthermore, he joins esteemed company as one of the OHL’s youngest goaltenders to claim this prestigious honor, following in the footsteps of Michael DiPietro of the 2015-16 Windsor Spitfires.

The F.W. “Dinty” Moore Trophy, named after the esteemed F.W. Moore of Port Colborne, Ontario, honors outstanding rookie goaltenders in the OHL. To qualify for this coveted award, a goaltender must play a minimum of 900 minutes throughout the season. Last year’s recipient was Zach Bowen of the London Knights, who currently plies his trade with the Peterborough Petes.
