TORONTO — Today, Premier Doug Ford issued the following statement to mark the beginning of the Thai Pongal holiday:
“As the period of Winter solstice concludes, the Tamil community here in Ontario and around the world will celebrate the harvest festival known as Thai Pongal. Those observing the holiday will spend the next four days giving thanks to nature, tidying and decorating their homes and gathering with family and friends to exchange gifts and food.
On behalf of our entire PC team, I would like to wish Ontario’s Tamil community a safe and joyous Thai Pongal and a happy Tamil Heritage Month. https://t.co/OsiWwNJPiM

January is also Tamil Heritage Month in Ontario. Our province is home to one of the largest Tamil populations outside of South Asia, and Thai Pongal is the perfect opportunity for all Ontarians to celebrate our vibrant Tamil community.
On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I’m wishing everyone a safe and joyous Thai Pongal and Tamil New Year. Pongalo Pongal!”
