Statement by Mayor Patrick Brown

Mayor of Brampton Patrick Brown

March 26, 2021 | Zhane Squire |

I am very sad to hear of the stabbing of a member of the Ontario Dump Truck Association (ODTA) who was protesting peacefully today at a job site in Vaughan. I will be working with the association to support negotiations in any way I can. Its time for all parties to come to the table. The ODTA has been participating in job action this past week over stagnant wages while operating costs have increased, among other issues raised around labour and safety regulations.

Dump truck drivers are among the essential workers who help build our roads, hospitals, critical infrastructure and housing. They help keep our economy moving. Brampton is a transportation and goods movement hub that provides essential logistical services to the benefit of the region and the entire provincial economy.

I wish the ODTA member a speedy recovery. I am pleased to hear that York Regional Police have a suspect in custody.
