– Wahl® Canada names DeMarre Carroll Beard Battle Champion, donates to his foundation –
Wahl® Canada has named its first-ever Beard Battle Champion—Toronto basketball pro DeMarre Carroll—and will donate $10,000 to charity in his name. Carroll and fellow teammate Cory Joseph have been putting their beards to the test for a good cause. The Wahl Beard Battle, an initiative from men’s grooming leader Wahl Canada, featured the two pros engaging in a beard-growing competition to raise money for charity.
In the end, the true winner is The Carroll Family Foundation (CFF), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the prevention and treatment of adolescents suffering from pediatric liver disease and disorders, which affects 10 percent of children. Through the public’s support of the campaign on Wahl Canada’s Facebook page, enough votes were cast to meet the goal of raising $10,000 for the charity.
“We have had a lot of fun with the Beard Battle competition this post-season,” said Frank Brown, President of Wahl Canada. “DeMarre and Cory were great sports and the support from Toronto fans was fantastic. We are happy and proud to hand over this donation to a very meaningful cause.”
Fans and supporters helped the cause by casting their vote for either player via Facebook. Fans who followed the players’ updates on Wahl Canada’s Facebook page from April 12 through May 8, 2017, voted on their beard progress photos. For every vote, Wahl Canada donated $1, up to the $10,000 goal. Carroll received 62 percent of the votes and was declared the winner. Since Carroll won, Joseph will be completing a list of household chores at Carroll’s home, including washing dishes, cleaning windows, and more.
“I am blessed for all the fans who voted in the Wahl Beard Battle for me to win against my teammate and friend Cory,” said Carroll. “But I’m especially grateful to have raised a significant amount of money for my charity, which is doing great things to help kids.”
“While I’m a little disappointed I wasn’t crowned Beard Battle Champion, we had a lot of fun with the campaign,” said Joseph. “I enjoyed working with Wahl while raising money for a great cause.”
