This weekend, a number of events and activities will happen in and around Toronto’s downtown core. Events such as the Just for Laughs comedy festival, Invictus Games Toronto 2017 closing ceremony, Toronto Maple Leafs’ pre-season game at Ricoh Coliseum, Nuit Blanche Toronto, Oktoberfest and other activities will create a festive atmosphere of excitement and increase the number of eventgoers in downtown Toronto. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come out and enjoy these events responsibly to keep the festivities fun and family-friendly.
Five of the special events this weekend will involve road closures. Businesses in the areas affected are open to pedestrian traffic but some roads will be closed to vehicles.
Festivals and other special events are important to the city, injecting hundreds of millions of dollars annually into Toronto’s economy, and they are enjoyed each year by local residents and visitors.
In addition to road closures related to special events, a significant amount of road work is taking place in the city. People are encouraged to take public transit as a greener, faster and more affordable way of getting to their destinations.

Nuit Blanche Toronto
A series of road closures will take place on Saturday, September 30 through to sunrise on Sunday, October 1 for Nuit Blanche Toronto. TTC subway service on Lines 1 and 2 will run all night Saturday and free parking will be available at TTC commuter parking lots.
CIBC Run for the Cure
There will be a series of road closures and lane restrictions in the area bounded by University Avenue/Queen’s Park Circle in the east, Bloor Street West in the north, St. George Street in the west and Armoury Street in the south on Sunday, October 1 from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to accommodate this event. As a result, some TTC routes will detour during these closures, including 5 Avenue Road, 94 Wellesley, 506 Carlton and 300 Bloor-Danforth.
Ontario Firefighters Memorial
Grosvenor Street from Queen’s Park Crescent East to Surrey Place will be closed on Sunday, October 1 from noon to 2:30 p.m. and the northbound lanes of Queen’s Park/Queen’s Park Crescent East, from College Street to Grosvenor Street will be closed from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Buffer Festival
The east curb lane and sidewalk on Yonge Street will be closed from Queen Street East to the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre, located at 189 Yonge Street, on Sunday, October 1 from noon to 11 p.m.
Invictus Games 2017
The Invictus Games 2017 continue until September 30. In order to provide a safe and secure environment for those attending the games, as well as those who live and work in the city, various road closures will be in effect in accordance to the Toronto Police Service’s security plan.
