Five Family Friendly Ways to Spend the Holidays

It’s been a long year for everyone, the holidays are our chance to have some time off and enjoy our families. This year, our activity and celebration choices and the people we can do them with are slowly but surely coming back, so let’s make this holiday season the best one yet.

Here are five family friendly activities to do with your loved ones during the most wonderful time of the year:

Go Tobogganing: Suit up in all your winter gear, dig out your sleds from the garage and head to the biggest hill near you. If you don’t already have a sled, you can make one out of many common household items, such as cardboard, garbage bags and duct tape.

Build a Snowman: There’s no better celebration of winter or a good snowfall than building a snowman. Everyone in the family can help out: from building it, to decorating and dressing it. Don’t be afraid to get creative. If you’re still enjoying the snow when you’re done, you could have a snowball fight, or if you’re feeling less competitive you could build an igloo or foxhole to enjoy the cold weather in. Afterwards you’ll have a reminder of the good memories you made all winter long.

Visit an Art Gallery: Tap into your family’s creative side with a trip to the PETERwHART Gallery. Take advantage of some of the free time you have to spend with your family by indulging in unique artwork. Located in the stunning old port of Montreal, the gallery is bright, airy and colourful, and features original art by owner, Peter W. Hart.. Spend the day at the PETERwHART Gallery for a wonderful, welcoming and family friendly experience this holiday season.

Bake Holiday Cookies: Look through your cookbooks and pull out your favourite cookie recipes. If you don’t already have a cookie recipe you love, the whole family can help choose one, or you can create one unique to your family and start a new holiday tradition. If you’re lucky enough to have any extra cookies you can gift them in the holiday spirit.

Take a Festive Family Photo: This one will help you put your holiday decorations to good use. Use them to decorate the backdrop of your photo and as props everyone can hold. A family photo is a great opportunity to show off your matching holiday PJs, even your pets can join in. Now that you have a great photo you can frame it and put it on display, make a tree ornament out of it or use it for your holiday greeting cards.

The winter holidays are one of the few times a year we have to relax, spend time with family and do the things we love that we may not have time for otherwise. Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah or just each other’s company, make this holiday season one to remember!
