Mississauga Steelheads hockey operations department has been keeping busy in July as the CHL held its annual Import Draft. The Steelheads selected two players from Czechia in Jakub Fibigr and Tomas Galvas. Both would go on to represent their home country and take home silver in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, a tournament that features the best U18 talent worldwide. The team also had two additional players, Porter Martone (assistant captain) and Ryerson Leenders representing Canada and capturing gold for the red and white.

Canadian Potential
Hockey Canada announced their U17 Team Summer Meeting Invites and two recently drafted Steelheads were named, Jack Ivankovic and Luke Dragusica. It shows how strong the prospect pool is within this organization and the potential this team has moving forward.

Out in the Community
The front office has been diligent in making sure we continue to put an emphasis on community. Our team attended multiple events including Taste of the Middle East and Italfest. With the season about to get underway there will be numerous minor hockey practices, schools and other events to attend with our players.

Minor Hockey Camp Presented by Canadian Tire
They are currently in the first week of our minor hockey camp with kids ranging from house league to AAA. The kids are on the ice with Steelheads coaches and players for two hours with a dryland break between sessions. Participants that sign up go home with a Steelheads jersey as well as some tickets to use during the season. It is a great way for our coaches and players to connect with youth in the community.

New Addition to the Coaching Staff
The Steelheads hired a new assistant coach for the 2023-24 season Stephon Thorne. He played three years in the OHL including being named captain of his team in his final season before playing six years at the pro level. Read More.

Training Camp for the team will kick off August 28th with the first exhibition game slated for September 1st against the Guelph Storm on Rink 2 at PFFC.
