MPP for Kanata-Carleton and Minister of Children, Community and Social Development Dr Merrilee Fullerton has tendered her resignation as a MPP and as a cabinet minister effective immediately.
In a post on social media the former MPP shared a letter that was submitted to the Premier of Ontario Doug Ford.
This afternoon I spoke with the Premier and tendered my resignation as MPP for Kanata-Carleton and as Minister of Children, Community & Social Services, effective immediately. It has been a distinct honour to have represented the residents of Kanata-Carleton. pic.twitter.com/edN82lxSfo

“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve Ontarians as a member of provincial parliament and cabinet minister over the past 5 years.” said Dr. Fullerton.
The letter does not state the exact reason why the Dr. resigned.
Dr Fullerton’s resignation leaves an empty seat and no representation for the people of Kanata-Carleton which will have to be filled via an upcoming by-election. It also puts the premier in a situation where he may have to again shuffle around his cabinet.
We will keep you posted as to next steps for the Ford Government and any date of a by-election for the people of Kanata-Carleton.
