Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan.

The Prime Minister and the King discussed political and security developments in the region, including the conflict in Syria. Prime Minister Trudeau highlighted Jordan’s efforts to promote dialogue and stability.

The Prime Minister and the King spoke about the importance of promoting peace and security in the Middle East. The Prime Minister conveyed his commitment to support Jordan through humanitarian and diplomatic engagement. The two leaders reaffirmed the need to counter violent extremism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and all forms of hatred. They pledged to continue to work together in this regard, including through the Christchurch Call to Action and the Aqaba Process.

Prime Minister Trudeau noted Minister Garneau’s trip to the region, including a successful visit to Jordan. The Prime Minister and the King underscored the strong partnership between Canada and Jordan, and looked forward to continuing cooperation on international peace and security.
