Vax The Holidays continues this weekend at Toronto malls and community spaces

Vax The Holidays clinics

This weekend, Team Toronto is hosting another Vax The Holiday campaign for any resident age 12 and older looking to get their first, second or third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

This weekend, Vax The Holiday clinics are taking place at the Lawrence Allen Centre, Stockyards Village and the Yonge Sheppard Centre. The focus of the campaign remains on providing COVID-19 vaccination in convenient and accessible spots where people will be for holiday shopping or celebrations. No appointments are required and anyone born in 2009 or earlier is eligible for a first or second dose.

In Toronto, 85.5 per cent of people age 12 and older have completed vaccination and 88.5 have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. It takes at least two weeks after getting a COVID-19 vaccine dose to be protected. That means anyone getting vaccinated this weekend will be better protected against the virus, including more contagious variants, by mid-December – in time for Solstice ceremonies, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s Eve.

Team Toronto has also set up vaccination clinics in community spaces across the city:

•       Etobicoke Civic Centre, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
•       Lambton Park Community Centre, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
•       Margaret’s Church, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
•       Lawrence Allen Centre, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
•       Stockyards Village, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
•       Yonge Sheppard Centre, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
•       Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre, noon to 4 p.m.

No appointment is needed for today’s Vax The Holidays community clinics.

City of Toronto clinics also continue to offer by-appointment first, second and third doses, including first doses for children 5- to 11-years-old: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-how-to-get-vaccinated/. Appointments are needed and can easily be made by calling the provincial vaccine booking line at 1-833-943-3900 or through the Province of Ontario’s How to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment webpage: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/.

Quotes:

“Every week, Team Toronto is working hard to bring the vaccine to the places and spaces we know Torontonians frequent. Vax The Holidays has been a great way for us to make it as easy as possible to get the vaccine. I encourage anyone eligible who has yet to get their first, second or third dose, to visit one of the many clinics to get their shot. As the winter months get closer, the COVID-19 vaccine is our best protection against the virus.”
– Mayor John Tory

“While our Team Toronto Kids Vaccination Plan gets underway, work to reach our goal of 90 per cent of Torontonians 12 and older fully vaccinated continues. Our Vax the Holidays campaign will be out this weekend to help make that happen by bringing vaccines to where people live, work, and shop. That’s what Vax the Holidays is all about – making getting vaccinated accessible for every single Torontonian.”
– Councillor Joe Cressy (Spadina-Fort York), Chair of the Toronto Board of Health

“The Vax The Holidays clinics are additional opportunities for Toronto residents aged 12 years and older to get the best protection possible against COVID-19. With the weather getting colder, we tend to gather more indoors. Vaccination – with increased ventilation and masking when possible – helps to keep the risk of transmission lower when gathering with members outside your household. Please don’t delay and complete your COVID-19 vaccinations as soon as possible.”
– Dr. Eileen de Villa, Medical Officer of Health
