Ice cream is a go-to dessert 12 months of the year – however, come the hot summer months, it tastes that much sweeter. With National Ice Cream Month celebrated annually in July, now is the perfect time to get a little creative, and adventuresome, when it comes to experimenting with some of the many flavours of ice cream out there and desserts that are complemented well by it. To help you make the most of the tastiest month of the year, here is a list of some creative ways you can enjoy your favourite ice cream flavours.

  1. Brownie ice cream sandwiches

Creating your own ice cream sandwich with decadent brownies is something that is sure to linger on in the memory of those you have assembled around your kitchen or patio table. Put your favourite ice cream flavour between two layers of brownies and you’ll find yourself courting something I’m calling palate paradise! Two flavours from our local ice cream shop, Baskin-Robbins, come to mind – Rocky Road for a rich taste, or NSA Pineapple Coconut, for a more refreshing summer treat.

  1. Extra-sweet ice cream floats

For the most over-the-top drink that will keep you hydrated all summer, this dessert is certainly the one for you. Pick any leftover soda drink, or use any carbonated water and add flavoured syrup, three scoops of ice cream to the glass and stir together. Top it all off with sweet toppings for a photogenic drink that will leave you wanting more—and your friends asking for the recipe!

  1. Decadent ice cream tacos

Tacos are in style for summer, but have you ever thought about ice cream tacos? Switch up the meat for any ice cream flavour and the taco shell with a freshly-made French crepe or with a cinnamon and sugar-covered tortilla for a creative and unexpected dessert. It’s definitely a good way to end any celebration and impress a long-lasting memory on your friends, but beware: they’ll ask for it next time!

  1. Ice cream piña colada

For the adults among us, especially those who wish to travel south at least figuratively, it’s not a bad idea to turn to the flagship beverage Pina Colada for a worthy and refreshing drink. Enhancing your pineapple beverage is as easy as adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream to the mix for an extra touch of creaminess. Simply shake your rum, cream of coconut or coconut milk, pineapple juice, and ice cream and you’ll have the perfect summer drink. Make it a virgin so the little ones can enjoy it, too.

  1. Chocolate mocha iced coffee

Last, but certainly not least, is an iced drink that will be appreciated by the coffee lovers in your home or close circle of friends. Pair scoops of Chocolate Mousse Royale for a light but divine taste and an espresso shot, and top it off with mini chocolate chips for the most refreshing dessert that will have good flavours percolating up and down your taste buds through the rest of the day.

Surely, these simple but sweet desserts will help you enjoy the most flavoursome month of the year. Happy National Ice Cream Month!
