Ontario Announces Excellence in Agriculture Honourable Mention Recipient

Celebrating the Cultivation of New and Innovative Ideas in Ontario Agriculture

TAVISTOCK – Today, Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, presented an Excellence in Agriculture, Honourable Mention Award to SoilOptix Inc., which has adopted technology from Europe that improves the soil sampling process in Canada.

The Excellence in Agriculture Awards recognize agri-food businesses, individuals and organizations that have raised the bar for agri-food excellence, demonstrated leadership in their field, undertaken strategic product development benefiting their sector, or advanced technological innovation. Today, six honourable mentions are being recognized across the province for their contributions to Ontario’s agri-food sector.

The new SoilOptix technology is:

  • More productive and efficient as it provides soil test results at 355 data points per acre versus the conventional one to two tests per acre. This helps farmers make the best decisions and helps them with soil stewardship.
  • Less invasive versus conventional processes (grid sampling) that are highly intensive, resulting in improved soil conservation.

“Ontario’s agri-food sector is a driving force for innovation and economic growth in our province,” said Minister Hardeman. “Producers like SoilOptix are always pushing boundaries and expanding economic opportunities. What I really like about their innovation is their contribution to the whole industry to increase productivity and environmental practices.”

“The team here at SoilOptix greatly appreciates receiving the Honourable Mention Award for the Excellence in Agriculture Award. Every member of the SoilOptix team contributes to our success, and we have deep gratitude for all they have done and continue to do,” said Lori Davey, Executive Assistant, SoilOptix Inc. “We are humbled by this honourable mention within the agricultural industry for our contribution and innovation for a healthier soil to bring optimal crop yields worldwide. We thank all those with whom we have built relationships and partnerships which have helped us reach this point of excellence.”

Ontario is a strong supporter of the agri-food sector and is committed to the province’s farmers and food processors, who produce more than 200 food and beverage products to feed our local communities and the world. The sector contributes over $39.5 billion to the local economy and employs one in eight Ontarians.
