New Ajax GO Pedestrian Bridge Now Open
Ontario is making it safer and easier to access GO Transit by opening a new pedestrian bridge connecting the north and south parking lots over Fairall Street at the Ajax GO Station.
Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation, joined Joe Dickson, MPP for Ajax-Pickering, at Ajax GO Station today to officially open the new pedestrian bridge. The bridge over Fairall Street will improve access for pedestrians and motorists entering and exiting Ajax GO Station.
Since 2013, Ajax GO Station has undergone extensive improvements, including a new parking structure with approximately 1,300 parking spaces, a new kiss & ride lot, and a signalled intersection to improve traffic flow through parking areas. In 2014, the platform and shelters were completely rehabilitated and a snow melt system was installed.
The province is cutting the cost of commuting for people in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Starting in January 2018, adult, senior, youth and student commuters will pay a TTC fare of just $1.50 when they use a PRESTO card to transfer between GO Transit or the UP Express and the TTC.

- Ontario is undertaking a $21.3 billion transformation of the GO network, which is the largest commuter rail project in Canada. The investment will deliver faster and more frequent service, create thousands of jobs and improve people’s quality of life. Ontario is on track to electrify and expand the rail network, and bring more two-way, all-day service to commuters and families by increasing the number of weekly trips from about 1,500 to nearly 6,000 by 2025. GO RER will be implemented on GO’s Lakeshore East rail corridor in Durham Region, providing electrified service at about 15-minute frequencies between Union Station and Oshawa, and express service to Union Station for communities between Pickering and Oshawa.
- Additional GO Transit improvement projects in Durham Region include the Clarington North Park & Ride, new Pickering GO Station Building, new Whitby GO Station building and pedestrian bridge, Newcastle Park & Ride, and Pickering GO Station pedestrian bridge.
- Ontario continues to plan for the future expansion of GO rail services to Bowmanville. The 2017 Ontario Budget reiterated the province’s commitment to work with its freight rail partners to move forward with GO rail service extensions, including the extension to Bowmanville.
- Ontario continues to invest in public transit in Durham Region. Since 2003, Ontario has committed over $201 million to support regional and municipal public transit, including $82.3 million towards Durham-Highway 2 Bus Rapid Transit.
