Province Celebrates Senior Achievement Awards Recipients
Ontario is recognizing 15 outstanding seniors for their significant contributions to their communities and to the province after the age of 65.
This year’s recipients of the Ontario Senior Achievement Awards include:
- Alexander D. McNaught, an author and historian who wrote a book about his community and restored one of its key historical sites
- Margaret Larson, a conservationist who works year-round to protect the iconic monarch butterfly species
- Lillie Johnson, a former nurse who has dedicated her retirement to raising awareness of sickle-cell disease
The awards will be presented at a Queen’s Park ceremony on November 29 by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and Dipika Damerla, Minister of Seniors Affairs.
Recognizing the exceptional contributions of seniors is part of Ontario’s plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.
