Parking discount offered for King Street Pilot Area

The City of Toronto and the Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) are together offering up to $5 off parking in the area around the King Street Transit Pilot, when the Green P app is used to pay for the parking.

The King Street Pilot Project has made transit a priority from Bathurst Street to Jarvis Street, but King Street remains open to car traffic, and drivers can use the many designated pickup and drop-off locations on King Street before making a right turn at the next intersection and finding a parking spot.

The parking promotion, good for one use, and valid until November 2018, encourages visits to local businesses, restaurants and theatres in the King Street area.

“We want King Street to work better for everyone, and while the pilot is effectively improving the reliability and speed of transit along our busiest route, this parking discount will help local businesses get the word out that this vibrant area of our city is as easy to access as ever, no matter how you travel,” said Mayor John Tory.

Earlier this week, the City released the first set of data on the King Street Pilot Project that demonstrated transit reliability and travel times have improved while there has been no significant impact on drive time in the area around the pilot.

“We are pleased with the pilot results we’ve seen so far for transit riders but we know that people come to this area from all over the city and region and many drive to get here,” said Barbara Gray, General Manager of Transportation Services. “The parking discount is one way of letting drivers know you are still welcome here and you can still drive in the area.”

Drivers who wish to access the parking promotion can:
• Download the Green P app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store
• Create an account
• Tap “Initiate parking session”
• Park and pay
• Enter Promo Code GCTG4A5 into the Discount Section in Session Options and receive up to $5 off your next parking session

The parking promotion is valid at locations that are within an approximate five-minute walk of King Street – specific locations where the promo code is valid can be found on the King Street Transit Pilot webpage http://www.toronto.ca/kingstreetpilot.

The promo code is only redeemable via the Green P App and is valid through to November 12, 2018.

About the King Street Transit Pilot
The King Street Transit Pilot aims to put people and transit first by improving transit reliability, speed and capacity between Bathurst and Jarvis Streets. On this section of King Street, streetcars are being prioritized. Other private vehicles cannot travel straight through at most intersections, but can access King on a block by block basis.

King Street is the busiest surface transit route in the city moving more than 65,000 riders per day. Prior to the launch of the pilot, streetcars on King experienced slow travel speeds, unreliable spacing between streetcars and frequent overcrowding. The pilot is being very closely monitored, and data results are being reported out on a monthly basis on the project website.
