By-election for Councillor, Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt will proceed on January 15 as planned
The by-election for Councillor, Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt will proceed as planned on Friday, January 15. Health and safety measures for voting places, developed in consultation with Toronto Public Health, were successfully implemented during the advance vote last weekend and will be in place on January 15. These measures exceed the requirements for other business and services that have remained open.
The City Clerk is confident that the voting place health and safety measures will keep electors, candidates, scrutineers and election staff safe on election day.

The City Clerk, in consultation with Toronto Public Health, has reviewed the recent provincial announcement to determine any implications for the planned by-election. Government services, including elections, are essential for the continuity of government. Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt has been without representation since September 24, 2020, and it is important that the electors are able to exercise their democratic right to vote.
Advance voting days were held on January 8, 9 and 10 and 2,227 of electors cast their ballots. Over 4,000 mail-in ballot packages have been sent out and 1,280 mail-in ballots have been returned and tabulated.
Voting places will open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on January 15, at locations across Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt. On election night, unofficial results will be posted in real-time starting after 8 p.m. on the Election Services web page at www.toronto.ca/byelection.
Electors are reminded to bring identification showing their name and qualifying Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt address and their Voter Information Card – the printed version received in the mail or download a copy to a smartphone from www.toronto.ca/myvote. A full list of acceptable identification is available on the Toronto Elections web page at www.toronto.ca/byelection. Having the correct documentation on hand will help electors to reduce wait times in the voting place.
Electors must wear a mask at all times in the voting place, and must stay home if they are not feeling well or experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
