DDSB Appoints a New Superintendent to Fill Recent Vacancy

New Superintendent will continue to provide system leadership and advance key initiatives

The Durham District School Board (DDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kandis Thompson to the position of Superintendent of Equitable Education to fill the vacancy being left by Jack Nigro who will be moving to the Toronto District School Board as an Executive Superintendent.

Kandis Thompson will become Superintendent of Equitable Education and be responsible for the Eastdale CVI, GL Roberts CVI, and RS McLaughlin CVI Family of Schools.

Kandis has over 25 years of experience as an educator, most recently as Acting Superintendent of Equitable Education and System Lead of K-12 Curriculum and eLearning at the Durham District School Board. Prior to her current roles, Kandis was a teacher and administrator across many DDSB schools and programs, having built strong and lasting relationships with students, families and staff throughout the District.

An advocate for equity in education, Kandis collaborated in the development of the DDSB Equity Exchange Program. Kandis has positively impacted the entire DDSB community through her work developing tools, resources and initiatives that support student success and well-being.

Kandis Thompson will be starting in her new role on Monday, November 14, 2022 and was previously selected following an extensive search in 2020 to create a superintendent hiring pool, where candidates from across Canada applied to be considered and participated in a comprehensive process.
