Intersection closure of Dundas Street West and Lansdowne Avenue for TTC track replacement

The City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commission will be replacing the TTC streetcar tracks at the intersection of Dundas Street West and Lansdowne Avenue from 7 a.m. on September 2 to October 5. This work will result in a full intersection closure, with no through-traffic permitted during the five-week period.

When the Dundas Street West and Lansdowne Avenue intersection closure is in effect, road users travelling east-west are encouraged to use College Street West, Bloor Street West or Queen Street West. Road users travelling north-south should consider Roncesvalles Avenue or Ossington Avenue.

This is the second of three track replacement projects in the Lansdowne Avenue/Dundas Street West/College Street triangle to rehabilitate aging infrastructure.

This project will run on an accelerated schedule to minimize disruption to the local area and the travelling public. Work on this project will take place on a 24/7 basis. The first few days of work will be the most disruptive because it will involve breaking concrete until 11 p.m.

To help manage traffic in the area, signs will be posted to ensure the safe travel of all local road users, pedestrians and cyclists. Temporary walkways will be provided during construction to allow pedestrians to safety make their way around the work zone. Cyclists should dismount when the closures are in effect and walk around the intersection or consider an alternate route.
This work is part of the City’s comprehensive, co-ordinated strategy to reduce disruption to the public while rehabilitating and further improving Toronto’s roads, transit and underground infrastructure for current and future needs.

This year, the City will invest more than $720 million to maintain and upgrade its infrastructure, including an estimated $360 million on roads, expressways and bridges, $300 million on sewers and watermains, and $60 million on basement flooding protection.
