LONDON, December 14, 2020/PRNewswire/ – The world’s number one Scotch whisky* manufacturer announced today that they plan to plant one million trees in four corners of Scotland by 2025. The announcement stems from Johnnie Walker’s consistent mission to reduce its carbon footprint and restore the natural resources used to brew the award-winning Scotch whisky.

Johnnie Walker Global Brand Director  Julie Bramham said: “Scotland is our home country. Thisisthe starting pointof ourjourney 200years ago, and it is also the core of what makes our whiskey so unique. When we openthe journeyto the next 200years At the gate, we hope to take positive steps forward to nourish and protect Scotland’s wild landscapes and pristine natural resources, which have made our whiskeys for generations.”

To date, 389,000 of the one million trees planned to be planted have been planted near our two wineries in the Scottish Highlands. Throughout the life of the project, these trees are expected to absorb more than 69,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide-the equivalent of traveling around the world 10,500 by plane, or 500,000 driving from London to Edinburgh.

This investment partnered with Lupi Moll, an environmental entrepreneur and owner of Inverlonan Estates, to fund the planting of local birch, oak, wild cherry, willow and hazel trees in Ballygowan near the Oban winery, as well as planting a new tree specifically dedicated to Diageo’s 28,000 employees. At Allt Ruadh near the Glen Ord distillery, Johnnie Walker and Trees for Life joined hands to plant ancient local trees, which will become an important wildlife corridor and increase habitat for species such as black grouse, crossbeak and red squirrel .

Steve Micklewright , CEO of Trees for Life , said: ” Rewildification is an investment in the future where wildlife can flourish and communities can flourish. Johnnie Walker ‘s contribution to  Trees for Life ‘s  Allt Ruadh project is an example of this approach. Theirs The support recognizes the critical role that the wild environment plays in restoring nature, reversing the climate and biodiversity crisis, and ultimately creating a healthier natural environment for future generations.”

The pledge issued today follows the bold and ambitious goals recently announced by the parent company Diageo, which aims to have a positive impact on the world over the next 10 years, in which Johnnie Walker pledged to ensure the success of its world-famous Scotch whisky by 2030. All production is carbon balanced, and all wineries will use 100% green energy.
