Fans can submit their best video game ideas and participate in free coding workshops with Microsoft
REDMOND, Washington , Dec.15, 2020 / CNW / – Microsoft Corp. and Warner Bros. forge an epic partnership and celebrate the release of the new ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ movie, coming in 2021. The campaign launch features Xbox, basketball champion and idol LeBron James, Bugs Bunny and the rest of the world. Looney Tunes ‘Toons’ team. The campaign highlights coding education and the creation of an original arcade-style Xbox video game inspired by the film.
As LeBron announced on his Instagram page , he and Bugs Bunny are on the hunt for the best video game ideas submitted by fans. As of December 14 through December 30, fans 14 and older can visit the website Official Contest to review the official rules and submit ideas for play. To participate, fans select the kind of game they choices using a keyframe, then describe the idea for the game in less than 500 words.
Two winners will see their ideas come to fruition in the official arcade-style video game of “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” offered as an accessory to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in 2021. Winners will also receive the following prizes: names in game credits, exclusive winners set including signed and authenticated LeBron James memorabilia, ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ merchandise, Nike VIP packages, personalized Xbox Series S console, private viewing movie with friends and family, plus a virtual Microsoft coding workshop for their local community.
To help coders of all ages spark their creativity, the Microsoft Store is hosting a unique, free “Space Jam: A New Legacy” virtual workshop on making video games. Students will develop a prototype video game to play using block coding on the MakeCode Arcade platform, while learning about the professional skills and STEAM career prospects involved in game design. Additional resources and other free workshops that train new skills and keep kids entertained this holiday season can be found on the Virtual Workshops student page on microsoft.com .
There are also two film-themed Microsoft Learn lessons that are aimed at more experienced coders, older teens, college students, and adults. These lessons focus on how to use player statistics to make real-time decisions in the middle of a game. The first lesson covers predicting machine learning and Visual Studio code efficiency ratings ,using data from human basketball players and the Toons team. The second lesson involves creating a web application that uses additional real-time machine learning models to help a trainer decide who needs a water break and who should join the game to maximize the chances of to win.
The video game competition, coding workshops, and lessons are part of Microsoft’s Global Skills Initiative , which aims to help 25 million people, including those from under-represented populations , to learn new digital skills and apply them to their passions.
