Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaks with Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Johnson discussed respective efforts in Canada and the United Kingdom to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, including measures to protect the health and safety of their citizens and to support businesses and workers. They spoke about the priority of rolling out safe and effective vaccines that will save lives.

The two leaders looked forward to working together during the United Kingdom’s 2021 G7 Presidency to advance global responses to the pandemic, to promote gender equality, to protect human rights, and to fight climate change. They discussed their shared goal of ambitious progress at the COP26 climate conference the United Kingdom will host in November in partnership with Italy.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Johnson welcomed the signing of the Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement this past December, which will benefit many workers and businesses, and emphasized the deep and strong partnership between Canada and the United Kingdom.
