Surprise performances of dance, music, circus and theater to reconnect with artists and outdoor shows

MONTREAL, Aug. 17, 2020 / CNW Telbec / – Place des Arts is once again coming to life and is happy to resume presenting shows in its venues, thus helping to relaunch cultural activities in the metropolis after several months of hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Short surprise performances by artists will be offered on its outdoor Esplanade from August 20 to 31, in the evening from Thursday to Sunday and Monday August 31, and in the afternoon on Sundays with shows intended for families. Urban dance, ballet and contemporary dance, Latin rhythms and klezmer, classical music, circus and even an opera for children: the performing arts will be in the spotlight for two weeks on the Esplanade at Place des Arts!

These spontaneous performances, which people will be able to discover as they stroll outside, are in addition to the initiatives offered by Place des Arts on its Esplanade since June: sound environment during the day with musical lists broadcast continuously, screenings archival photos in the evening and special lighting highlighting the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier and its famous colonnade, the Theaters building and the water basins. All ephemeral activities on the Esplanade are presented in accordance with the health instructions of the government and Public Health.

“Like some similar initiatives that we saw during the summer and in collaboration with several partners including the Quartier des spectacles Partnership, Les 7 Doigts, Danse Carpe Diem / Emmanuel Jouthe, Les Grands Ballets, the OSM and the Orchester métropolitain, we are delighted to once again present artists on our Esplanade, a place open to all and normally lively practically all year round. With this initiative, we hope to contribute to the revival of the community and the city center and allow citizens to reconnect with the performing arts after the interruption of our activities in mid-March. All the necessary health measures will be in place so that the public can have a pleasant and safe experience, ”emphasizes Marie-Josée Desrochers, President and CEO of Place des Arts.
