The City of Toronto and Team Toronto vaccination partners have now administered first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine to 45 per cent of Toronto adults. Reaching 45 per cent full vaccination coverage in Delta variant hot spots like Toronto by Canada Day was an ambitious goal set by the Science Table when the more contagious variant started appearing.

Today, Team Toronto has also set the highest seven-day moving average so far in the vaccine campaign with 51,896 total doses per day.

Team Toronto continues to vaccinate everyone who wants a vaccine against COVID-19 as quickly as possible. There are still a handful of Canada Day long weekend vaccination appointments available for City-run immunization clinics and there will be a number of other clinics held across Toronto. Anyone age 12 or older can book a first dose or accelerated second dose now. Appointments for City-run immunization clinics can be booked by residents through the dark blue “Book a Vaccine” button on www.toronto.ca/covid-19 or by calling the provincial vaccine booking line at 1-833-943-3900.

There are 52 new cases of COVID-19 in Toronto today. Since the start of the pandemic there have been a total of 169,800 cases of COVID-19. There are 121 people hospitalized. To date, there have been 3,553 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. In total, 165,680 people have recovered. Case status data can be found on Toronto Public Health’s reporting dashboard: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-latest-city-of-toronto-news/covid-19-status-of-cases-in-toronto/.

As of this morning, Toronto and most of Ontario are in Step Two of the provincial Roadmap to Reopen: www.ontario.ca/page/reopening-ontario. Small indoor gatherings of up to five people from different households are permitted and outdoor gathering limits increase to 25 people.

The Province of Ontario has said all of Ontario will remain in Step Two for at least 21 days. Vaccination rates are a key consideration of the provincial reopening strategy and timing to move to Step Three. For Step Three reopening, provincewide vaccination coverage is required to be 70 to 80 per cent first dose and 25 per cent full vaccination in adults. Almost 77 per cent of all adults in Toronto have already received their first dose.

The City has updated City service and amenity information to allow for additional gatherings and activities permitted in Step Two: www.toronto.ca/news/city-of-toronto-supporting-tomorrows-move-to-step-two-reopening-has-already-issued-hundreds-of-permits-for-safe-outdoor-fun/. “More than 45 per cent of Toronto adults have now been fully vaccinated. Thank you to all of our healthcare and community partners who are part of the Team Toronto effort to get people their first and second doses. That work is continuing non-stop this weekend so if you are eligible for your second shot, please get it and if you don’t have your first shot, please sign up to get vaccinated. We want as many residents as possible to be fully vaccinated to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant and to protect the progress we are making reopening our city. By getting vaccinated, you are protecting yourself, your loved ones and helping us all bring this pandemic to an end.”
