The Wizard Mitch Marner and Penalty Killing Take Care of Business, Maple Leafs Win 5 – 0

Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs

It was not business as usual with the Toronto Maple Leafs this evening when they took on the Tampa Bay Lightning in round 1 of the Eastern Conference Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Leafs were facing the back to back Stanley Cup Champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first game of a best of 7 series.

The Leafs earned home ice advantage finishing the regular season with more points than the current Stanley Cup Champions and played their first NHL Playoff game in front of a sold out arena at home in Toronto, in years.

What we witnessed was the Toronto Maple Leafs best complete game in the playoffs in years.

They were laser focused and looked like they were are on a mission.  At the end of regulation the leafs took game 1 with a score of 5 – 0. A shutout win for goalie Jack Campbell and scoring from Leafs stars Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.

Three Stars of the game

  1. Mitchell “The Wizard” Marner (Toronto Maple Leafs)
  2. Auston “The Sniper” Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs)
  3. Jack “Soup” Campbell (Toronto Maple Leafs)

Quotes

Interesting words by head coach Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“Yes, you’re playing another team and yes, Toronto took advantage but they were our mistakes, ” he said.

Really coach,  how about, “the Leafs out worked you, smashed you in the face and made your goalie and defense men look silly.

Commentary

A 5-0 win by the Toronto Maple Leafs is a tail to tell this season.  In my humble opinion the Leafs will win the series in 5 games but it would not surprise me if they sweep the series!!

En Route to the Stanley Cup finals! The Sniper Sentry Sorgini reporting to you.  Stay tuned for Game 2 on Wednesday May 4th.
