Toronto City Council names members to committees, agencies, boards and corporations

On November 24, 2022, Toronto City Council voted to appoint Members of Council to committees, agencies, boards, corporations and Community Councils. Committees and other governing bodies streamline the Council process and oversee the delivery of key City of Toronto services.

The Chairs and Vice-Chairs of Executive, Standing and Special Committees as well as Community Councils were appointed by Mayor John Tory through mayoral decision: www.toronto.ca/city-government/council/mayoral-decisions/. The remaining members were recommended by the Striking Committee, with recommendations adopted by Council today during the second day of the first meeting of the new Council term: http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/decisionBodyProfile.do?function=doPrepare&meetingId=23065#Meeting-2023.ST1.

Executive Committee
Executive Committee makes recommendations on Council’s strategic policy and priorities, governance policy and structure, financial planning and budgeting, fiscal policy including revenue and tax policies, intergovernmental and international relations, Council and its operations and human resources and labour relations.

The Economic and Community Development Committee’s primary focus is on social cohesion and the economy, with a mandate to monitor and make recommendations on strengthening communities, neighbourhoods and the economy.

Community Councils

The membership of the Community Councils consists of the members of Council elected for the electoral wards that the Community Councils represent. Community Council responsibilities include making recommendations and decisions on local planning and development, as well as neighbourhood matters including traffic plans and parking regulations. Community Councils report to Council but they also have final decision-making power on certain items, such as fence by-law exemptions and appointments to local boards and Business Improvement Areas.
