Toronto Public Health (TPH) will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Toronto Newcomer Day on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 to welcome and celebrate newcomers to Toronto. This clinic is part of Team Toronto’s continuing efforts to bring COVID-19 vaccination opportunities to places residents live, work and play – including Toronto Newcomer Day and other major events in the city.
The Toronto Newcomer Day clinic will be offering first, second, third, fourth and paediatric doses of COVID-19 vaccine to anyone who is eligible and operates on a walk-in basis. OHIP is not required for COVID immunization. The clinic will be held in Nathan Phillips Square – 100 Queen St. W. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Masks are mandatory inside the clinic area.
Team Toronto continues to work hard to bring COVID-19 vaccination opportunities to places residents live, work and play. Since August 2021, TPH – with the support of the City’s Vaccine Engagement Teams (VETs) – has administered more than 1,100 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to refugees in Toronto. This is in addition to the 2,300,000 doses that have been administered to residents across the city since August 1, 2021.
TPH encourages residents to receive all of their eligible COVID-19 doses on time, including all booster doses (third and fourth doses) for the best protection against serious illness linked to this virus. Recent data show that residents who kept up-to-date with their vaccinations were better protected against serious consequences linked to the virus, when compared to those who were unvaccinated or under vaccinated.
First, second, third and fourth doses are available by appointment or walk-in across the five City-run immunization clinics. Residents can also get their doses at more than 525 local pharmacies that are offering the COVID-19 vaccine, Indigenous-led vaccination clinics, select primary care offices and other Team Toronto health care partner clinics.

Newcomers, including refugees, have unique needs, depending on factors such as country of origin, language proficiency, health, and other factors.
TPH offers a number of programs and services post arrival with interpreters to help support new residents as they arrive in Toronto, including:
• Free dental screening and care for those who are eligible
• Advice for pregnant and new mothers
• COVID-19 vaccinations for adults and children
Additionally, TPH will continue to work with City and provincial partners to learn more about the needs of the refugee population to be ready to provide appropriate public health services.
First proclaimed in 2015, Toronto Newcomer Day is an annual event held in May that welcomes newcomers to Toronto, helps them understand and access a range of services, and celebrates their contributions to the city. The event features a number of activities, including a formal stage program, newcomer marketplace, Historic TO neighbourhood walking tours and information fair.
