Toronto Public Health improves dashboard reporting with same-day updates

Toronto Public Health (TPH) has improved its process for extracting and releasing information regarding daily case counts and other data indicators that represent the COVID-19 pandemic in Toronto.

Since the start of the pandemic, the TPH daily updates on newly reported cases of COVID-19 have presented data extracted from the provincial source databases on the previous day. As a result, case counts recorded by TPH reflected COVID-19 reporting which occurred a day earlier.

Beginning Thursday April 29, TPH will be updating daily case data at 4 p.m. each weekday to reflect information available as of 8:30 a.m. the same day. The suite of data being reported is unchanged and will be available on the TPH dashboard and through Toronto Public Health’s Twitter account, www.twitter.com/TOPublicHealth.

During the transition to same-day reporting, new daily COVID-19 case counts for the first day (Thursday, April 29), will rely on the summary provided by Public Health Ontario (PHO), based on the same data source. The change in case counts from the previous day reported by PHO for April 28 data is 1,172 cases.

TPH will continue to use and report the PHO daily case counts on Saturdays and Sundays going forward.

The combined changes provide closer to real-time data reporting and allow Toronto Public Health to consistently leverage epidemiological resources.
