We are back at the Baku City street circuit in Azerbaijan for FP2. We see most teams are going with the medium tyres in FP2. Pirelli has given the teams the softest three compounds to use, this will give the teams an assessment and other strategic options for Race Day on Sunday.
Note, the apex of these curbs around the track could be deadly on race day, in this second practice, the drivers are starting to push, and with that comes spinouts and crashes into the barriers.
The teams will relay the data, on tyres, aerodynamics, and so forth to the drivers. The drivers will relay valuable information on the condition of the track and wind conditions. This is an unforgiven street track, and anything can happen at any given moment.
Practice 2 Brief
Ferrari is out first, followed by Alpine and McLaren, as we write, Norris spins out and then gets back on track… close one.
Downforce is playing a major factor on the long straights, and the apex curbs and winding bends are given drivers fits around the turns.
Perez Red Bull Racing on the track and away he goes. The pace is getting fast, and times are falling as fast as they timed.
Drivers are coming back to the pit with less than 30 mins to go in this session. The racing cars are being changed with softer tyres.
Wow, Hass, Magnussen goes off-ramp into turn 3, and Albon of Williams has hit the barrier around turn 17.
Mercedes, Haas, and Williams did not have a good session in FP2.
The flag is out, the session ends, and we see Leclerc lead on the top of FP2, followed by the two Red Bull, Perez, and Verstappen.
Note Alpine, drivers, Ocon and Alonso has a very good session with both drivers in the top ten timesheet.
